The History of the Baker University
                                 ALUMNAE GREEK COUNCIL

In the fall of 2010, sorority advisory board and corporation board members from all National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) groups at Baker University met with Dr. Pat Long and other Baker administrators regarding issues facing sororities.  All alumnae involved felt the exchange of ideas was extremely beneficial in addressing issues together with the university, and assisted with communication between all sorority alumnae in an effort to come together to insure the continued strength and collective viability of NPC sororities.   In particular, advocating for a permanent Fraternity and Sorority Life Advisor within Student Services was felt critical as one of the initial goals.

A concern of sorority alumnae was that this positive momentum and improved communication might not continue with the passing of time, change of administration, or change of individual house advisory boards and corporation boards.  Consequently, a small group of alums from each active NPC sorority met to discuss how to formalize this communication vehicle for the future.   As a result, the Alumnae Greek Council was formally organized.

Two alumnae from each of Baker's three NPC sororities founded the Alumnae Greek Council:   Alpha Chi Omega:  Diane Blackwelder and Janice Simpson
Delta Delta Delta:  Carol Farmer and Susanne Teel
Zeta Tau Alpha:      Anita Hempy and Pat Wooster-Jackson

Many universities have Alumnae Greek Councils promoting Greek membership, working on mutually beneficial projects and participating in advocate roles in that impact the Greek community as a whole.  Dr. Pat Long and other university administrators were presented with a mission statement and overview of this proposed council for Baker and it was officially recognized in the Fall of 2011.
